Many of my students have never made a tie dye t-shirt before. During our forensic unit, we learn about chromatography and how it is used to solve crimes. An activity we do to demonstrate this concept is making Tie Dye shirts. Students use sharpies and make the pigments separate using rubbing alcohol. Students are amazed by what they see happening right before their eyes and are able to make personalized apparel using science! Students love this project, but unfortunately they cannot afford their own t-shirts to complete this activity. Being able to participate without the financial worry will be a huge relief.
