The materials selected for this project will provide students with various seating options to choose from to best fit their individual needs within the classroom. By giving students the option of choosing where and how they work, I am allowing them to take that first step in setting themselves up for success for whatever task lies ahead. Just as my students are all different types of learners (visual, auditory, kinesthetic, etc), they also have different needs when it comes to their physical learning environment and how they work best. During independent work time, I allow students to choose a place where they feel they will work best. Some sit or stand at desks, while others grab a clipboard and sit against a wall or lay on the floor to work. They enjoy having the choice to pick a place in our classroom that is their special spot to work, and it’s amazing what productive, hard workers they are when given this freedom to choose. With these materials available for students to use, students will not only be able to choose where in the room they work, but what materials are the most beneficial to helping them work hard and stay focused. Wobble stools and cushions will greatly benefit students who need movement while they work but prefer to be at a desk; lap desks will aid students who prefer to work on the floor but need a desk like surface to work on. Additionally, wobble cushions and stadium seats give students another option for floor seating while allowing them to be comfortable and focus on their work. Allowing students to have a choice in their learning has a huge impact on their demeanor within the classroom. Providing them with resources they need will only further their success as learners.
