  • Leaning Tower of Dominoes and Bricks!

    Funded Jul 18, 2022

The magnet tiles and bricks have had a huge impact on my students during free time. This is a time they earn by having completed all required assignments in and outside of the classroom. This allows us the time to just let the students socialize with each other. This type of break is imperative to their mental health and well being. We don't get it a lot as there are so many projects and learning taking place in fourth grade that it is a real treat when games, etc. are brought out and they get to choose whatever they want to do. This is not a time for using lap tops. Its a time for interacting with their peers!”

  • Seeing What Makes Something Tick!

    Funded Feb 26, 2021

The microscopes from the smallest to the more advanced made our science lessons so much more than just fun. The students could not get over what they could do with them, and how it enhanced what they were looking at on the slides. On our school field we have due to problems in drainage developed a new ecosystem so we are able to go and capture water and organisms not usually found in our area of desert! Seeing the student's faces when they were using the microscopes was amazing, they were just so excited to be able to take something so small they could hardly see it; to being able to see so much detail that they could then draw pictures to share with each other. Plus they were all rushing around the room sharing their discoveries with each other as if they had discovered the moon in our classroom. There are always moments as a teacher that you treasure, this was definitely one of those. Thank you so very much.”

  • Shazzam! New School Supplies of My Very Own!

    Funded Oct 1, 2020

The resources you funded were used in my classroom and also with my colleague. We used them during art and core curriculum lessons.

When the boxes arrived, the students were excited to open them just like it was Christmas morning! They loved helping me sort the items and were excited about the thought about getting to use them.

We did a direct draw with lots of details with the colored pencils! They learned about patience and using different art mediums.

The cleaning supplies are especially helpful in the aftermath of an art project and also for the classrooms returning to school after COVID-19. Thank you.”

  • Science is Scintillating for these Students!

    Funded Jul 25, 2020

My students and I were overwhelmed with the science supplies we received for our 4th grade class. We do distance learning at this time, however, we use a website called Mystery Science and Mystery Doug and we are still able to recreate some of the experiments long distance. The experiments are easy for my students to handle the materials and have successful outcomes.

The students were so excited to learn they were going to be able to be hands on with their science curriculum this year. Some of the items we will be able to use year after year. Being able to bring science strongly into the digital classroom makes learning so much more fun. The students discuss among themselves what they see happening in the experiment, they ask each other questions, while some will work out the answer and help the others get to that.

Again, we thank you so much for your generosity and commitment to kids!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Feinstein

  • Scholastic News = Love of Reading!

    Funded Dec 31, 2019

The scholastic new was enjoyed by my students for various reasons. They love to read aloud to their peers. I had one student lead the class each morning that we started with the magazine and he did really well. We would alternate at different times which the students also loved!

The articles were subjects they could relate to which then led to interesting discussions. We would also hold debates on some of the articles so the students could voice their opinions and learn the art of debate respectfully. It was a lot of fun to watch and listen to.

Another way in which they enriched our classroom is we would take some of the articles and go looking for more information which encouraged the students to do research on their chrome books to then discuss with the rest of the class.

Lastly, these moments would then require them to stand in front of the class to present their findings which encourages public speaking which we all know can be difficult.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Feinstein

Using the art supplies is only one part of what I am requesting. The books I have ordered give me the opportunity to teach them so many ways of expressing themselves that they have never tried before. Teaching them new ways to figure out how to draw people, cartoons, plants, and animals. They can learn to draw a landscape, write a comic book, do a self-portrait, all ways of giving them the chance to be successful and feel successful! I will show my students works by Van Gogh, Picasso, Rembrandt, and abstracts, etc. In some sessions, they will create their own replica of one of the masters, like "Starry Night". In other lessons, we will learn how to draw a body, a tree, a horse, a house in a realistic manner. Giving them the skills to expand the art they are used to doing with art they haven't tried before.
