Our students had a taste of producing media pieces using green screen last year. They are very interested and excited to take it further. Our students will be understand the use of technology with the green screen at all grade levels, (including kindergarten), they will take that knowledge and apply it through authentic task projects, that will involve creating/building, research and writing scripts for news casts. They will learn interviewing skills, develop planning and organization skills, analyze the data from their research, evaluate their plan and create a broadcast.
This project is designed to introduce students, who would not otherwise have the opportunity to experience learning and working with this equipment.
Beginning with the lighting, the students will have to put the lights together, understand how they work and why they are important to broadcasting. Students will have official roles, and will rotate through each role until they have had the opportunity to experience how each role is important to a successful broadcast. The producer must decide on the order and mix of the newscast - how to structure the packages, live shots, weather, sports and local business in a way that is engaging and makes sense. Some of the other roles students will experience are studio engineers, news writer/editors, anchors, video editors, sound engineer, director.
This project is for grades K-5. It follows the standards for reading, writing, and communication in the state of Colorado. This project also aligns with the Jeffco School District's Authentic Tasks for the next generation.
