  • Starting Knitting Business

    Funded Apr 27, 2017

Thank you so much for funding the knitting supplies to our students. They were so thankful and amazed at what they could make. Not only were they interested in the actual creation of their items, they loved learning about the different size needles and yarn. This project turned into a whole new way of teaching about numbers, size, and creations. It was so cool that they saw how many related to a hobby in which they started to enjoy. I wish you could've seen our girls' faces when they opened the boxes of yarn & needles and started teaching themselves how to knit. Thank you so much!”

  • What's Soccer Without a Ball?

    Funded Sep 24, 2013

It has been a joy to watch the 7th & 8th graders at soccer practice. It's the first year we've had a ball per child and for the coaches to be able to give immediate feedback. It is already so apparent of the growth the girls have made in just the short amount of time the season has been open. Finally, they are really looking forward to their first game. :) The team has decided their ultimate goal (no pun intended) this year is to make playoffs and be a well-known soccer team in the area. Being a previous soccer player myself, it's fun to watch their excitement grow and see them reveling in working as a team. The items you donated have truly allowed the girls to feel like they are part of something bigger. This may have seemed like a small token from you, but you have no idea the impact on the girls. I don't think we will ever know the complete impact, but please believe me when I say, there's a difference in this team already this year.

    THANK YOU!”

  • Graph It on a Calculator

    Funded Oct 10, 2012

Wow! I don't even have the words. What an amazing contribution from your end! Being my first year teaching Algebra, I didn't realize the benefit of these graphing calculators to my classroom, until now.

I remember being an Algebra students and hating it, hence some of the reason for my strong passion for math education! I look back and realize, I was never taught the proper way to use such great technology!

In this day and age, the students have the ability and full confidence in using these graphing calculators. To see their excitement when we use them for the day is so refreshing. To witness students' connections from paper/pencil to calculator is amazing!

Have this resource makes me feel a little more happier knowing I can now better ready my students to go to and through college! Thank you so much for your part in helping their dreams come true!”

  • Algebra?! HELP!

    Funded Sep 29, 2012

The Algebra Tiles were a huge hit! Thank you so much for providing funds to allow us to use such fun manipulatives that let us "see" what's happening mathematically. As their teacher, it's so fun to watch light bulbs become brighter when a concept makes more sense. The students have gained a much deeper understanding of factoring polynomials, and I thank you for the opportunity to teach them in a real way.

I cannot express how appreciative I am of people like you. Please know your contribution makes an unbelievable impact on student learning! It is definitely the small things in life that make life better!”

  • Math at the Ballpark... for Girls!

    Funded Apr 19, 2012

Oh my goodness! The girls had a blast at the baseball game! Thank you so much for helping our young ladies see math in the real world. When you hear comments like, "Is it 2nd quarter yet?" you know you're making an impact on the education of our youth. Sometimes we adults don't take that step back to realize some of the things that we just know. Some of our young ladies don't have all of the opportunities I had as a child, so I'm happy I had all of you to help support us financially get to see a live baseball game.

The girls continually talk about the experience they had and who knows, maybe we inspired some of the young ladies to pursue an athletic scholarship while they attend the 4-year college of their choice!

    Thank you so much!”

  • Garden Math

    Funded Dec 1, 2010

What a day! We just finished planting our flowers. Today, the girls loved math class so much. I've heard tons of comments about how they get to grow something, take care of the flowers, etc. Even though this was a math lesson, so much more came out of it. The girls became confident in themselves that they can do "grown-up" things. At the end of each class I asked the girls to raise their hands in they had fun today. Out of 80 girls, I think only one hand didn't go up, and I don't think it was our lesson that wasn't fun for her- I think it was just not a good day for her. I asked the girls to share why they had fun today. Some of their responses: "I liked getting dirty." "I liked seeing how volume connects to the real world." "I like measuring with real stuff."

So, thank you to you and you and you! Without you, this wouldn't have happened! My girls thank you! We hope you continue to help in education any way you can!”

  • Math Mania!

    Funded Feb 28, 2011

Thank you so much for your generosity. I know there are tons of projects on DonorsChoose that are worthy of your funds, so thank you for choosing us. We girls really appreciate supporters of our math education. :)

Watching the girls light-up when I showed them our new "toys" was priceless. They love learning, but most importantly they love having fun. In our classroom, both things happen at the same time. It was awesome showing them the manipulatives and hearing their responses:

"Now we can all play that card game at the same time!"

"We better treat all this stuff with respect so Ms. K can use it next year!"

"This color-coding helps me understand place value."

It was amazing to see the excitement and connections they made so quickly. This tells me people like you truly help determine the outcome of my students. Without these manipulatives math would just be math. Now, with your help, we've taken it to the next level and the girls have realized, Math IS fun! :)

Thank you so much for your support. I hope you choose to continue supporting classrooms.”

  • Seeing My Math

    Funded Dec 15, 2010

This technology is so cool! I think all teachers need one of these. It's handy, reliable, and cost-efficient. It's amazing. I'm glad I don't need to worry anymore if technology in my room will work anymore.

This model "folds" down to a size smaller than a laptop computer, which is awesome and allows for easy storage. It's lightweight and so easy to store and set-up. It's really user-friendly too, so kids can operate it as well!

This piece of technology basically replaces a typical, old-school overhead projector. Many times my light bulb would burn out on it and I wouldn't be able to show the students what I was trying to explain in a way which was helpful to them. Now I can just grab an already copied worksheet, or even one of their examples, and immediately walk the class through the problem.

Thank you so much for your generosity, as always! Keep giving and making this world a better place! We teachers need more people like you.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Pappas

  • Girls Are Good at Math! We Will Prove It!

    Funded Oct 23, 2010

Thank you so much for your kindness. We have opened all of our new stuff and the kids are even more in love with Math! It was amazing to see the kids' faces light up when they learned we have things to "play" with and learn from. I heard the kids talking and they are so happy that there are generous people in the world like you. Many of them even stated they hope that they can help kids in their future. Not only are my students learning the math skills needed to survive in our dynamic world, they are learning how support impacts their future. They are making the connection that not everyone is as supportive as they could be and that they do want to be as supportive as they can be in their future.

The biggest hit is the game 'Smath that we received. It's exactly like Scrabble, however, the kids must make true equations on the game board. I decided to have some friendly competition among my classes. The girls are so into the game, not realizing they are becoming more familiar with numbers at the same time.

I love seeing my students love learning, so thank you for all your did to support my girls!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Pappas

  • Tri-Folds! Tri-Folds! Give Your Tri-Folds!

    Funded Feb 16, 2010

Thank you from the bottom of my heart just isn't enough. You've inspired children in a whole new way. I had students come to me at the beginning of the year who hated math, which is pretty normal. Luckily I had amazing teachers growing up who lit a fire in me to absolutely adore math. I also had the parental guidance and support when math got tough. So, I want to do all I can to light that fire in my students. You have helped immensely.

My students are so appreciative of you for making a difference in their lives. Honestly, it is amazing how the simplest supplies make math so much more enjoyable. It helps me teach when the students desire to learn.

It is so nice to have people in this world who know how important our children are. They are OUR future, and need support from people like you. There are a lot of people who say teachers aren't paid enough, and the education system isn't what it should be. I appreciate you for being proactive about some of these public education issues and making a difference. It's nice to know good people are around and care enough to help teachers and students.

Please continue doing what you do for our children. It truly takes people like you for our children to learn best. Thank you again and I will always remember this gift of kindness from you.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Pappas
