Equipping Young Minds through TECHNOLOGY
Funded Apr 7, 2014Learning has never been the same since we have received (2) two iPads and the GoPro. The students were very excited to have them knowing that they can now access to more learning that takes them to the next level.
We were able to download reading and math apps the prepped them for the state testing. Besides using these apps to supplement the review, they were able to use it for research plus use other apps that were Montessori focused adding a new dimension to learning them online in a more fun and easy way. More technology equates more efficiency, more access and service to students to achieve their goals. they have enjoyed these moments and will continue to utilize them as we finish up with the school year.
The GoPro camera will challenge them to explore creativity in taking pictures and being able to create learning videos. This will also include their writing of scripts and dialogues and through practices they will be able to rehearse them with acting and speaking their lines.The final product is a video of their creation. Built in this activity or project is being able to work as a team and give the performance of a lifetime.
The iPads have helped me and my students a lot by providing easier access to technology and addressing needs that only technology could bring. These materials have saved us a lot of time that our time in class has been productive and we were able to achieve our goal for the year. Just seeing their reactions, this has made me more inspired to create more projects so they can have more learning and materials that would take them to the next level. We have seen the value it has impacted my students' learning in class that extends to time as they get themselves ready and equipped for the next level at school.

Readers Are Leaders
Funded Sep 20, 2013First of all, in behalf of the students of Room 202, we are forever grateful of your generous support and contribution in improving our class and helping us take our reading and math skills to the next level. Thank you for coming to visit us and meet us also in person as well. WE were anticipating your coming since Mr. Young informed us about the project and how this would impact all of us this school year. As our teacher started to unpacked them from the boxes, we were so excited to see the resources especially the guided reading books that we will be using throughout the year.
WE are starting our Guided Reading Program in my class this year. It is our first time to implement this program. Having this additional resources, like reading books in our level, the students will be able to be expose to fiction and non-fiction books. My students and I have actually started this small group classes to address the reading issues and challenges our students face. The resources came in a timely manner that this maximizes the learning of my students.
This is just the beginning of a journey to making guided reading happen in my class at Room 202. These materials and resources have aided my students and I to make reading fun and engaging. Just having them at hand makes my teaching rewarding and my students' learning an unforgettable experience.

Making Saturday School Fun
Funded Oct 15, 2010Our deepest gratitude and appreciation for the generous support have afforded our students. The benefactors of your donation, Class 2018, has started using the Basic Electricity Kit with their lesson on Electricity and Circuits. Being able to use the materials in a hands-on and minds-on laboratory, they were able to learn the distinction between series and parallel circuits, open and closed circuits and building an electromagnet as well. Next week, they will be learning about conductors and insulators.
Last week, the also have used the Lightning Balls as we had the investigation on the Human Circuit. You could just hear them laughing as we explore, at the same time learn the concept of energy transfer and flow through the human body.
As we progress through the year, the lessons on rocketry will be continued in our Saturday School sessions. My students are excited that they will be able to launch another type of rockets using water bottles and the launcher that you DonorsChoose have purchased for them.

Class 2018
Funded Sep 9, 2010In behalf of the Class of 2018, my students have been thankful for the generous donations you have given to our Science class. I am working with the most hardworking students in the state of Texas and I can't be thankful enough for this gesture you have shown us.
Our school laboratory in 5th grade is a regular classroom where resources are limited. Often, I improvise and create models and modules just to meet the standards of state testing for the past 6 years. Though we have always met the standards and expectations, we are just appreciative of these donations. Now, I do not have to worry about spending too much time creating models and using my own resources to buy them. We are forever grateful for the models and kits DonorsChoose purchased for our school.
We have been learning rocketry for a few Saturdays already and we have utilized the rockets you have ordered for our students. In the next month/s, we will be learning more topics focused on space Science - Science in the Sky. Having all these models, my students are looking forward in using them. This will tremendously help our ELL (English Language Learners) learned the necessary vocabulary and to solidify the science concepts through hands-on and application of what is taught to them.
