Funded Nov 24, 2018I would like to thank you so very much for your generous donation to enhance our Spanish library with interesting books for the children to enjoy. In our Dual language program we have learned that the children learn best when they can connect with their text. Many of these books have subjects and/or topics that they can relate to. With the Spanish language books, the pictures and illustrations help the students better understand the main idea and capture their attention to try to read the words. Many of the words are similar to the English version which makes it even better for them to connect. With the bilingual books, the students can better understand the story.
During reading workshop students can work in groups and partners. They will read and discuss text. Their conversations are done in reciprocal teaching groups in which the students predict, clarify, question, and summarize sections of the text to gain a better understanding. These groups benefit the ELs in the class because they listen to the discussions and , although they may not be able to read some of the English books, they can connect through the discussions. This also works when the Spanish texts are read.
Although my ELs are loving the books, I find that the whole class seem to be enjoying them. My Spanish speaking students become more confident because they are looked up to by the others to help read and explain the Spanish text. I think it makes them feel more important to our learning environment. I especially enjoy watching partners read the bilingual books, teaching each other how to say the words.
On behalf of the 2nd grade teacher and myself, I would once again want to thank you for the wonderful addition to our library. They are truly appreciated.

Funded Dec 15, 2011Thank you very much for your generous donation to our classroom. The games have been very helpful in giving my students help in reinforcing basic skills and strategies they need to do better academically. In grouping students to work on these activities, my english language learners find it more comfortable in socializing and trying out their fluency skills with others in the room.
Our system has eliminated that extra economic help and it has been difficult to get additional resources. Having donations like these make such a positive impact on a classroom.
Once again thank you for taking a small moment out of your life to make a special moment in ours.”

MAKING LEARNING FUN!!
Funded Oct 6, 2010Thank you very much for your generous donation to our classroom community. The activities have been a great asset to our learning of math and language arts.
The students were asked how they felt the activities helped them and some responses were that it's helped them increase their speed with multiplication facts, divide multi-digit numbers, think of different strategies to solve word problems, and, in one group's case, notice the difference in size between centimeters and meters. As one student put it, " I learned many new strategies and algorithms and it helped me to understand and concentrate." (algorithm was a vocabulary word and I'm so proud of it being used!).
As the students worked on the games I noticed how willing they were to help each other solve problems. It was not a matter of who won but what was the answer. I Love my students and want to do everything I can for them to succeed.
Once again, thank you for the great games. They are truly appreciated.”
