Cracking Cases Breakout EDU Style!
Funded Aug 30, 2019I can't thank you enough for supporting this project. Last week we had our first "breakout" session in class. When we first started the students were unsure of how it would all work and couldn't believe they were trying to solve locks for science class. As they started they understood their task and dived right in. Some groups split the work up, others focused on one clue at a time. Some groups used their hints right away, while others held on as long as they could. There was no one way to get these tasks done and as a teacher I loved seeing the different ways the students processed.
All the students were fully engaged and focused on solving the tasks. I loved hearing the students working together and talking through the problems in front of them. Their task helped them think deeper about the science topics we have covered in class. They were able to synthesize the information and dig a little deeper into the content. The students were so proud of themselves when they "broke out" and opened that last lock! As they left class students were eager to find out when we would try another breakout. Students remarked "my head hurts from thinking so much but it was so much fun!" and "That made science so much more exciting", "I can't believe we solved all those clues". Thank you again for supporting my students and allowing them to have this opportunity. I can't wait for the next one!”

Funded Aug 23, 2018Thank you so much for your donations! My students are loving the new supplies in the classroom. My students are using the new furniture to give them the freedom to move around the classroom. Students can move away from traditional desks and spread out around the classroom. They are always excited to be able to find a "flexible seating" option and ask everyday. I have seen the positive impact on their work as well. Students are finding a place that works best for them and are able to focus much more. I find some of my students like to pull up a cushion and move away. I find other students laying and stretching out. I love seeing students pull up the seats together to talk and work through problems as a group on their own. It is amazing how a little change like seats away from desks can change the mood of the classroom. The class is quieter, more focused and engaged thanks to a little more space and a little more comfort. On behalf of my students and myself, THANK YOU!”
