These materials will expand my classroom library into a place that my students can enjoy and relate with. All of these books have been chosen with my students in mind, based on their personal interests and topics relevant to what is going on in society today. Students will be able to choose which books they wish to read, which will help facilitate independent reading time students will actually enjoy. In addition, I am seeking magazine subscriptions that can be incorporated into the curriculum to promote awareness of current events, while building comprehension skills through non-fiction texts. With these new books and magazine subscriptions, my students will be able to explore a variety of texts that will allow them to read independently and connect to the content at their own reading level. Because this is an alternative program, it is more important than ever that students have options that allow them to personalize their education and feel success on their own terms.
