Materials Needed for Virtual Teaching
Funded Aug 12, 2020My students and I truly appreciated your generous donations. As my school district
has been utilizing a 100% online learning model since the beginning of the school year, and they will continue to do so until further notice due to the increased cases in our area, the resources I got from your donations were especially helpful. I have been using the white board easel set up behind me when I am virtually teaching to create and display anchor charts with my class, teach literacy concepts by using magnetic letters on the white board, and teach new math and writing concepts by writing directly on the board. Thank you again for helping me and my class in this unprecedented time.”

This classroom project was brought to life by The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and 3 other donors.Classroom Supplies for a Classroom in Need!
Funded Aug 8, 2019Most of my students came to school on the first day with no supplies of their own, so being able to give them their own pencils, crayons, and erasers meant a lot to them. We have enough of these to last the whole year without having to worry. Manipulatives and dry erase markers/erasers have made center time more meaningful and engaging. When I explained to my students where these supplies came from, they were happy and appreciative. Thank you so much for your donations that allowed me to purchase many wonderful materials for my students!”

Diverse Books for Our Diverse Classroom!
Funded Aug 12, 2018The books that were donated to my classroom have had a major impact on my class. My students have been able to relate to and connect with these books, as most of these texts incorporate people who look like them, as well as had similar experiences to them.
They have helped me promote a love of reading in my room and foster a literacy-rich environment. My students have loved to hear me read these books aloud to them, and often ask for me to read many of them again and again. When they go to the classroom library, they are so excited to try to read these books themselves.
I have used the texts to teach students important skills, such as identifying character traits, describing the different aspects of setting (time, place), finding text evidence to support comprehension questions, understanding the central message, retelling using transition words (first, next, then, last), making connections (text-to-text, text-to-self, and text-to world). Being able to practice these skills in order to help better comprehend texts is crucial. These skills are setting a solid foundation for my lifelong learners and readers. Thank you for making a difference in the lives of my students.”
