We Need to Listen to Learn!
Funded Dec 23, 2016I am so pleased to let you know how an amazing resource the listening center has been for this class. The kids look forward to using it each day, and they make sure they remind me that it is their turn to use it! This type of technology helps these English language learners with fluency of words and pronunciation. When they listen and follow along I can see they feel a sense of accomplishment just by the smiles on their faces:) When they follow along they are able to remember their words faster and more easy through hearing and seeing the words.
The most exciting thing about having this center is that the students are able to manage it independently with little help from me, which makes my job that much easier to help the others. The caddies help all us us stay organized with our books and Cd's. Our rolling easel is very valuable to us because I often use it at the back of my class for small group pull outs that need extra reinforcement on language skills, reading skills and anything I feel they need more of.
All of the students benefit from this center but particularly the ones that truly have not murmured a word yet since September are the ones that seem the happiest. They feel special to be able to follow along and just get the gist of a story. I know they are getting it, because I will ask them comprehension questions and some are starting to answer. This makes me see the bright patches that are so needed with this population.”
With gratitude,
