My Spanish class needs funding for three projects. Vocabulary in Spanish will be practiced before we start our art. Students will be able to identify the materials and speak about the steps in Spanish. My first project will be for The Day of The Dead ( El Dia de Los Muertos) My students will learn about the history/origin and festivities of the holiday. As a culminating activity, we will have our virtual class in the kitchen. The students will make cookies and use the Day of the Dead cookie cutters to shape into Calaveras (sugar skulls). After they learn how to, they will communicate in Spanish the steps. The second project will be to celebrate the family and winter/Christmas season. My students will use the craft sticks, yarn, and scissors to create Ojos de Dios (God's Eye). This form of art is very popular in Mexico. They are traditionally made to celebrate the milestones a person accomplishes from their birth. They are also used to decorate the Christmas tree. As we make art, we will communicate in Spanish. The final project that my students will create will be 3-D snowflakes. The materials for the snowflakes are colorful copy paper, scissors, and staples.
