Responsible, Safe, Respectful. These are the three rules our campus lives by each day. In order to create a deeper meaning to these words, we have decided to start a Leadership program in which kids on our campus learn to be responsible for activities and use their voice to make a change. Our goal is to create a panel of Council members as well as a class of leadership students. Together these groups will learn how to use what they know to create a welcoming, positive, and safe campus atmosphere. One of the most important positions will be the Treasurer who will help raise funds for fifth grade science camp, extracurricular activities, and other needs the students might brainstorm. Another important position is our school Historian who will be in charge of taking photos and videos at events and keeping school display cases updated.
Students will also have and create opportunities to reach out to their community. The goal of this program is to give students more responsibility while allowing their voice to be heard loud and clear. Personal statements proved that programs like this encouraged more students to stay out of trouble and forced them to focus on their studies. Our goal is to transform our student's idea of school from "boring and hard" to "exciting, fun, and comfortable". The items on this list (paints, brushes, poster paper) are crucial for kickstarting this program because they will help us make posters to spread the word about events, decorate for events, and especially help us fundraise- our hope is that selling popcorn will raise funds for our fifth graders to ALL be able to participate in science camp!
