Photography is key to quality reporting. As students refine their journalistic writing and editing abilities, they are also challenged to consider how to capture a moment or a person through an image that best represents the setting and people and corresponds to the story they plan to publish. Photography enlivens our stories and photographic equipment is essential to the work of journalism that garners and maintains the interest of readers. From Spirit Week to voting registration, my students have worked tirelessly to provide coverage that informs and documents important school and community events. My students are budding young professionals, and reporting with industry-aligned photography equipment best prepares them for work as reporters and photographers in the modern-day landscape of journalism.
