Big Things for Small (but Growing) Minds
Funded Sep 29, 2022Your donations have really helped bring our classroom to life. All of the coloring items were used to complete class projects and classroom decor. The pencils and erasers were provided to students whose families are facing financial hardships and are unable to afford them. Students were very excited to know that they had pencil cases provided with their own materials and that they would no longer need to borrow them from teachers or their friends. Students were also super excited to use the coloring materials to help them create and bring their classroom projects to life. Thank you so much for all of your contributions! My students and I truly appreciate it!”

Funded Sep 23, 2021The funds that were donated to our classroom have helped us to buy a gift card to TeachersPayTeachers. This is a website designed by teachers for teachers. There are many resources available to purchase that were created by teachers around the country and around the world. As a special education teacher, I sometimes struggle to find activities and resources that meet students where that are since the range of levels within a class can vary greatly. Teachers pay Teachers has allowed me to purchase a plethora of activities and resources that help support ALL students.
Some specific items that were purchased are anchor charts that I have printed on poster paper and hung around the room. These anchor charts help our visual learners follow along and apply specific concepts. The anchor charts include vocabulary, steps, examples, and explanations for specific concepts throughout the year. Students really like these because I keep them up around the room all year and they are able to quickly reference them whenever they need to.
Another item that was purchased using the gift card was differentiated performance tasks. Performance tasks help the students demonstrate what they have learned after completing a specific mathematical standard. The differentiated tasks are very beneficial to students because it ensures that they are all working toward a common goal but also providing students with work that is tailored to their specific level.
Overall, I will be able to purchase more resources in the future to help all scholars reach the achievement levels that they set their goals to. By being able to include resources created by other teachers, I am able to spend more time in the classroom providing individual and small group support instead of spending most of my time trying to create these materials from scratch. The help we have gotten is very much appreciated and will be carried along for many years to come.”

This classroom project was brought to life by The DonorsChoose Community and 3 other donors.Rolling Around the Classroom
Funded Nov 25, 2018This board has really impacted the quality of education happening in my classroom. My co-teacher and I are now able to work with multiple small groups and use the board to easily help students see the math in different ways. Students have taken it upon themselves to go up to the board to show other students a particular method of math they might like. They have taken complete ownership over the board and are like mini teachers to their classmates!
When the board first arrived, the looks on student faces were priceless and they were even more shocked to know that someone cared enough to donate it to us. They were excited to write the thank-you notes and many even asked if they could meet the person who donated the board, Ha! Although the board was not requested for one specific project or lesson, it is used in many different ways on a daily basis. We use it to write notes for students who can not see our smart board as well. We also use it for small groupings and to re-teach mathematical concepts to struggling students. My favorite feature is that it is double sided so we can have multiple groups of students working on different things simultaneously.
Coming up, we are getting students ready for the NYS Math Exam on May 1 and 2. This board will make it possible to work with targeted groups of students to make sure that everyone is having equitable access to the curriculum. Thanks again for your generosity and for helping my students see that people really do care about them and their academic success.”
