  • Graphic Novels Galore

    Funded May 6, 2020

Wow! These books are amazing and have been a bright spot in the 2020 school year for my students. They thoroughly enjoyed the illustrations and the stories. We spent the last couple of weeks reviewing dialogue In a variety of books. The speech bubbles in these books were a great reminder of how different authors show dialogue differently.

Reading looks a little different this year, as students need to remain in their own space instead of finding a comfy spot around the room. I am glad I have these books to offer as interesting and engaging stories. Even my most reluctant readers are excited to read these books.

We are just beginning to write our own comics. The students have browsed the Comics! Easy as ABC! Illustration books. I am excited to see how the comics turn out. The students are very invested in this project and I love seeing their creativity.

Thank you again for helping me bring these resources into my classroom.”

  • Amelia Bedelia for Everyone

    Funded Aug 11, 2020

Today was a great day for my students! They were allowed to come to school to pick up the Amelia Bedelia books. My school is currently teaching through Zoom, and these books will be a way for us to stay connected even when we are apart.

Over the coming days the students will read the books at home. Next week, we will talk about the similarities and differences in the books. We will also look at Amelia Bedelia's thoughts, words, and actions. Thank you for providing the books that can make us feel connected even as we are learning from home.

Since the books were at a variety of levels, I was able to give each child a book that he or she will enjoy reading. The students were excited to receive the books today, they are smiling under their masks. I am excited to begin valuable discussions and continue to develop the love of reading in each of my students. Thank you again for your support with this project!”

  • Creating Artists

    Funded Nov 8, 2019

Wow! My students used the material you provided to create beautiful artwork. This past week we were able to provide time for the entire grade to participate. That means 66 students were able to let their creativity shine.

The students were excited when the boxes arrived. A few students were asked to help carry the material up the stairs from the office. On the day we began painting, students squealed as each new color was revealed. Decision making is always tough for third graders, but deciding which colors to use was part of the process.

I loved how this project was multiple steps to create a finished product. The students learned many lessons beyond creating their art. We discussed the meaning of the phrase "Home is Where the Heart is." The students were able to learn new vocabulary words like: stroke, bristles, canvas, and patience.

Thank you again for supplying the material for the entire thirds grade to make this project. The students will never forget an experience.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Tadlock

  • 50 New Books

    Funded Dec 19, 2019

Thank you so much for giving my students the opportunity to read new books! The day the box was carried to our room was very exciting. We cracked open the box and looked at all the titles. Then students had an opportunity to choose which book they wanted to read first. I only have 21 students so there were plenty of choices.

Several of my boys dove into the graphic novels. I love have multiple copies of the same book, so students can talk about the story while they are reading. Multiple readers have already read the books fiction picture books. I love hearing, "You just have to read this!" as a student passes a book off to a friend. The books about famous women were also scooped up.

There is nothing like being the first person to read a book and knowing the ending before anyone else, that is not an opportunity my students have often. You gave them that experience. Thank you again!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Tadlock

  • Books for Me, Books for Us!

    Funded Aug 13, 2019

The school year is in full swing! Thank you again for providing books with diverse characters for my students. The books you provided for my class are getting a lot of use. Children are enjoying reading them in small groups. I love to see students from so many different backgrounds gathered around a book.

This year we have taken time to analyze the illustrations as well as the text. We have examined the different artwork, writing styles, and text messages. We read to ourselves for at least 30 minutes every day and I love to hear students recommend these books to other readers in my class.

Third grade is a pivotal year for students to enjoy reading. Currently, five of my students have not found a favorite book, yet. I still have more work to do since my goal is to have EVERY students find a favorite book before the end of the year. Thank you again!”

  • We Need to Wobble

    Funded Nov 20, 2018

Thank you so much for helping with my students reach their full potential! My students love sitting on the wobble stools. We use them every day during reading and writing. Most days we get to use that during math too. Students are able to sit comfortably in place their feet in a variety of positions. They are able to wobble as they work. The stools are lightweight enough to be moved various spaces in the classroom. Students can use that one working alone or with a partner.

The students were very curious when the seven large brown boxes arrived in our classroom. We opened them as part of our morning meeting. The students began to try them out immediately.

The wobble stools have been a great addition to our seating options and they make learning just a little more fun. This is an opportunity I could not have given my students without your help. Thank you!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Tadlock

Last year one of my grade level teammates was fortunate enough to have a flexible seating project funded and used it this past school year. Through this, I discovered the magic of movement while working on the highly demanding standards of today's schools. Students who used the wobble stools stayed more focused and produced better quality work. The stools were especially helpful during reading and writing lessons. In addition, students had to use problem-solving skills to share and figure out fair ways for all to get an opportunity to use the chairs. Having these stools in my classroom would allow my students to move while completing their work.
