Literacy and Science - The Most Dynamic Duo
Funded Aug 10, 2019We have loved having these new books in our classroom. When introducing a book, students join me on large rug in the front of the classroom. We read the book together, and discuss how the book relates to our classroom content. For example, this week we read a book about a sediment (rock) and the journey he takes to become a Sedimentary rock. After reading the book, students wrote similar stories from the point of view of a rock. They were so creative, and added very detailed illustrations to their work. These books that you've donated help reinforce our science topics. Our learners deeply appreciate the books that you've added to our classroom.”

Funded Jul 30, 2018Thank you SO much for the various items your donation helped supply. My students LOVE getting to use the colorful stools on a daily basis. Along with the stools and teacher table, your donation also allowed me to purchase adhesive LED lights that are displayed along my board. Every morning my students rush into my room, in hopes of being the "color selector" for the day! They love getting to change the color of these lights. Giving them something little like this, makes them feel like this classroom is also their's - a place where they belong.
This past week we have been studying light energy. Groups of 5-8 students gathered at my teacher table, to learn about how light can reflect or refract. This small group setting, allowed students a hands-on experience of learning science. For that I am truly grateful.
Please be on the lookout for my future projects. I would like to create a project that helps increase our literacy in the science classroom. So far this year I've been checking books out from my public library, but I would eventually love to get these titles donated so they can be a permanent part of our classroom.
Again, thank you for your contribution. You have made my year!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Pivonka
