Middle school is a time of transition, a time in one's life where you start diving into who you are and where you are going in life. This past summer I had the honor of attending the National Writing Project at our local university. This professional development inspired my fellow cohorts and me to write through a process called "sacred writing time." Using mentor texts or simply life experiences, we had the freedom to write what was in our hearts. The results were phenomenal. By setting up a classroom with alternative seating and standing chairs, my goal is to create a comfortable and creative environment for my students to write. I am requesting standing desk kits, Big Joe chairs, and a couch. Writing will help them in all academic areas as well as help them navigate the waters of self expression. By incorporating sacred writing time, we will also create a community within our classroom. I love what I do, and I thank you for taking time to hear my story.
