The students keep asking me, "Can I borrow a camera for the project?" Cameras are essential for any school with a video production pathway. What is most essential for students to succeed in the video production pathway is the means to realize their vision. Due to district policy, students are not allowed to borrow school equipment outside of school. They have great visions and ideas. Throughout the year, I continue to be impressed with the quality of work and improvement when they submit their films for English or Video Production. They are restricted to only film on-campus, which limits their scope. My students are extremely resourceful where they frame things carefully, develop narrative so that it fits within the school, or use their smartphones outside of school--They will do what it takes to complete their projects. If students are able to film without being restricted to just the classroom, they will be more engaged in the classroom, as every film project is connected to academic content, and create the avenue in which they are able to explore and develop their technical skills.
