In our changing world, students need examples and connections to students like them in the literature they read. They need great, real, current literature to help them make connections and learn how they can be active members of their society in positive ways. Putting diverse books in the hands of students will help me to support students in their learning about race, diversity, and social justice. Books can be a great start to provoke discussion, share thoughts and opinions, answer questions, make connections, and so much more. The more I can help students connect and expand their thinking through examples of great literature, the more aware and active students become as positive members of their society that can contribute to our diverse world.
