Funded Jan 22, 2024I want to thank you for your generous support of our Dungeons and Dragons (D&D) club. Every week students come to the club excited to hang out with their friends and get tangled in adventures of fantasy. Every week for the last two years I have dragged my single copy of the basic books up and down the stairs and hallways of our middle school so that my students can get to experience what D&D can mean to them. It is an exhausting process that leaves our 4-5 Dungeon Masters clamoring for a chance to use each book and forces our players to use digital tools to compensate.
Your donations have given us a way to break that last link to our screens. We have enough copies of each book to give our players so many more choices and our DM's some much needed resources. Having so many sets of dice has also allowed our players the ability to choose their "lucky dice." They haven't yet realized that this just means they are doing more mental math because the computer no longer adds up their totals.
The D&D club is a volunteer position. We don't have uniforms, fundraisers, or adoring fans. All the same, D&D and games like it were a very important part of my time growing up. We played daily. It gave us the chance to put ourselves in someone else's shoes. It improved my reading, math, and interpersonal skills. It gave me confidence I didn't know I had. Showing this hobby to the students of my school has been an absolute pleasure. Your donations have given us more than books and dice. It has given the club a feeling of legitimacy. Dungeons and Dragons clubs are often overlooked. Knowing that you all support what we do is a wonderful feeling.”
With gratitude,
Mr. Morandi
