  • Essentials to Succeed in School!

    Funded Feb 19, 2019

Thank you for your support of our project. Many of our children's families are low on resources, and facing challenges with their children's mental health can add to their stress. Help with essential items means that they can spend more time supporting their child through tough times, coming in for parent meetings at school, and adding meaning to their lives in the ways that they would like to. One parent said that these essentials meant that she could save trips to the grocery store, meaning that she didn't have to lug supplies home. She struggles with chronic pain, so this made a huge difference in her ability to be present for her child. As a program that focuses on the whole child and the whole family, being able to make that difference with the children and their families is really what we're all about. Thank you for making it possible.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Glauberman

  • Essential Items to Keep Kids in School

    Funded Aug 22, 2018

Thank you so much for your generous donation to our program! Our program focuses on teenagers and their families, and for the families having trouble making ends meet, having a little extra support makes a big difference.

Using the Donors Choose donation, we shared essential home supplies, including soap, detergent, toothpaste, shampoo, deodorant, and paper goods with the families whose children are in our program. Receiving these gifts was a huge relief, and they were grateful for the support. Sometimes, having a child with a mental illness can mean cutting back hours at work, spending time applying to additional services, and growing stressed about making everything work for your family. Knowing that our program was able to help in this small way showed them that they have a community that's willing to lend a hand in times of need.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Glauberman

The Children's Day Unit at the New York State Psychiatric Institute is an intensive outpatient psychiatric treatment program for adolescents ages 14-18. The program includes a New York City public high school. As a clinical and research facility, our adolescents receive a wide range of psychiatric services for a range of mental health disorders. The hospital provides free treatment for adolescents struggling with obsessive compulsive disorders, anxiety, social phobia, depression, school refusal, bipolar and eating disorders. The students attend class daily and are eligible to earn high school credits while attending the CDU. In addition to getting assistance in their academic subjects, the students receive individual and group therapy sessions, social skills and art therapy, and neuropsychological testing when indicated.
