Many of my students are struggling with reading and reading comprehension. Although students learn at different rates, all students master basic skills in a similar sequence when first learning to read, from recognizing sound to decoding words. These item are for centers in my classroom and will allow students to learn while having fun.
Students need several skills to master reading and reading comprehension including listening skills, rhyme and alliteration, syllable blending and segmenting, patterns sentence segmentation, and phonemic awareness. Decoding Flashcards, Junior Learning Phonological Awareness, Phonics Flashcards With Pictures and Blending Words, will be used as a short intervention tool to help students who difficulty matching sounds and letters, which can affect reading and spelling. Also students who decode in a labored manner or have trouble reading and spelling phonetically benefit from small group intervention made fun through using these items.
Students will use Grammar In a Jar and Figurative Language in A Jar to figure out what words (adjectives, adverbs, pronouns, or prepositions) to use in the blanks to complete the sentences and to answer multiple-choice questions to explore the use of metaphors, similes, and idioms. These items will be used as center activities as well as for inside recess. Students struggle with recognizing and learning new vocabulary words. Edupress Vocabulary Game Teaching Materials, Eureka Tub of Word Tiles, 3rd and 4th Grade Vocabulary Flash Cards, as well as, 1100 Words You Need to Know Flash Cards will be used during center time to help student who struggle with vocabulary terms and definitions. Also included is several comprehension games and pencils. Students love taking part in their own learning. Student will be able to make connections, and determine the importance of text by playing fun games with their friends.
