There is a great deal of research on the many benefits of flexible seating, especially in an English Language Arts classroom at the middle school level. My students will be able to choose where they would like to sit comfortably to read and/or write in my ELA class by utilizing the chairs and pillows. Teenagers are social by nature, and flexible seating encourages students to collaborate productively with their peers or simply chill out alone if they need some down time. Flexible seating also provides a place for them to fall in love with reading, which is one of my goals for every single student. Who doesn't enjoy a good book while relaxing rather than sitting at a desk? Research also points to the importance of having an inviting and welcoming classroom. The plants will allow my students to breathe clean air and feel more calm and at ease while learning. My goal is to create a classroom environment where everyone feels welcome because it truly is these children's second home. At a minimum, students spend nearly five hours in my classroom each week. Your generous donation would reach approximately 150 students each year and would be greatly appreciated!
