  • Outdoor Play Village for Pre-K Students!

    Funded Sep 19, 2024

I hope this letter finds you well and filled with joy. Today, I write to you with a heart full of gratitude for your generous donation towards our project of bringing playhouses to our Pre-K playground. Your kindness and support have touched our hearts deeply and have made a significant impact on the lives of our young learners.

Our students cherish their outdoor playtime, a time filled with laughter, energy, and imaginative play. Until now, they have creatively utilized various parts of the playground to enact their playful scenarios, often playing 'house' without an actual house structure. Your donation has turned their imaginative play into a tangible reality, providing them with a set of beautiful playhouses where they can explore, create, and learn.

These playhouses are not just structures; they are the foundation for developing critical skills in our children. Through playing house, our students will enhance their executive functioning skills by planning and organizing their play scenarios. They will learn the importance of sharing and communicating effectively with their peers, fostering a sense of community and cooperation. These are invaluable life skills that will serve them well beyond the playground.”

    With gratitude,

  • Chairs for Outdoor Learning With Older Elementary Students in Harlem

    Funded Nov 29, 2023

Happy New Year. I hope you are all well.

Amazing! Thank you very much for supporting my classroom.

I have written several Donors Choose projects this school year. The benefit of writing these grants are to supplement the cost of classroom supplies. My projects have included outdoor sheds, shade umbrellas, child/adult sized lightweight chairs and STEM learning items this year alone. Seventeen total have been fully funded within 5.6/years from Donors just like you!

These classroom supplies have helped to build the capacity of learning tools that make for exciting Center Time activities. The learning I promote happens inside and outside the classroom.

Our school has an Outdoor Learning Focus. The older Elementary students will now have 17.5 inch sized chairs fitting for their height. The students will benefit from new chairs in the classroom learning environment. The lightweight folding chairs will allow students to independently move them as needed to join outdoor learning under the new outdoor tent so we can hold class outdoors and stack for easy clean-up and storage.

In total I have raised $9,900+ in grants through Donors Choose. THANK YOU.”

  • Tables & All Weather Suits for Outdoor Learning

    Funded Oct 1, 2023

Tremendous! Thank you very much for supporting my classroom.

I have written several Donors Choose projects and been supported by community members such as yourself. The benefit of writing these grants are to supplement the cost of classroom supplies. My projects have included outdoor sheds, outdoor tables, shade umbrellas, child/adult sized lightweight chairs and STEM learning items this past year alone. Sixteen total have been fully funded within 5.4/years from Donors just like you!

These classroom supplies have helped to build the capacity of learning tools that make for exciting Center Time activities. The learning I promote happens inside and outside the classroom.

The students benefited from new tables in the classroom learning environment. The lightweight tables allowed the students to independently move them as needed to join another center inside the classroom; or for ease helped move them to outdoor learning. Some are placed in the outdoor shed for easy access to set up a quick learning environment. 1-2 days a week I can host Outdoor Breakfast, Outdoor Morning Meeting & Outdoor Centers with a 15min set-up. This could not be done before with the old heavy tables.

Something as basic as tables can make a huge impact on the classroom environment and management.

In total I have raised $9,106+ in grants through Donors Choose. THANK YOU.”

As a beautifully diverse Title I school in Harlem, New York City, our community faces many challenges. Minimal funding for materials that allow for imagination and a cozy classroom, the expansion of non-public schools in the area and personal struggles are just some challenges we face. Children need to feel safe and included in order to learn, and it is our goal to see that it happens. It is our mission to reach every child and promote their inner beauty and individuality through hands-on play, imagination, and a flexible (and cozy) classroom space. We believe that every child should feel "at home" and safe in their school community. We are requesting dramatic play materials and seating on a new clean carpet that promotes diversity and inclusion in the classroom. Our students are encouraged to express their personal and diverse backgrounds, family makeups and emotional needs. The materials we've requested were specifically chosen to help promote creativity and allows children to express their individuality.
