As a beautifully diverse Title I school in Harlem, New York City, our community faces many challenges. Minimal funding for materials that allow for imagination and a cozy classroom, the expansion of non-public schools in the area and personal struggles are just some challenges we face. Children need to feel safe and included in order to learn, and it is our goal to see that it happens.
It is our mission to reach every child and promote their inner beauty and individuality through hands-on play, imagination, and a flexible (and cozy) classroom space.
We believe that every child should feel "at home" and safe in their school community. We are requesting dramatic play materials and seating on a new clean carpet that promotes diversity and inclusion in the classroom. Our students are encouraged to express their personal and diverse backgrounds, family makeups and emotional needs. The materials we've requested were specifically chosen to help promote creativity and allows children to express their individuality.
