Do you remember going to school and sitting at a desk for hours? Every. Single. Day. Flexible seating is an opportunity to not only enhance student engagement, but to also give students a chance to choose which type of work space works best for them. Currently, I encourage my students to pick a place in the classroom where they feel they can work the best. Some decide to stay at their seats, but the majority of the class gets up, moves closer, sits at our teacher table or grabs a clipboard and sits on the carpet.
Flexible seating helps students work collaboratively, communicate, and engage in critical thinking.
With your help, the products I have chosen will give my students more choices and opportunities to be better engaged. The inflatable balls will help the students who need to be constantly moving, without causing a distraction to others. The inflatable donuts will be able to give the students some movement, but with a little less bounce for those who want to bounce, but have found the ball is too much. The stools are also just another option for the students to choose. They are light and can be moved around the classroom easily. The sensory cushions and bean bag chairs will give the students the option for comfortable seating. With so many students wanting to work on their bellies or on the carpet, the lap desks will be perfect! There is a rhyme and a reason to the madness.
Knowing you have a voice matters, no matter the age and I truly believe it will help my students get to the next level.
