  • Make Our Classroom Feel Like Home

    Funded Aug 2, 2023

Wow! Your donations have made our classroom feel like home. The carpet and curtains are so welcoming! The original carpet was not available but one very similar was (original had numbers the new one has letters). The kids love to select the letters they sit on, it allows us to do phonemic awareness activities and it was on sale so we were also able to get some plushy plants to read with and new name tags for their desk. We had the most amazing first week back to school and appreciate the safe, comfortable atmosphere. It's going to be a great year to "grow" in our room!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Sheeley

  • Literature and Art

    Funded Aug 19, 2021

The students have really enjoyed the extra craft materials in our room. We have created crowns, spirit shakers, dot art, rainbow art, fall scenes, Earth crafts and many other projects!

The availability of the resources has made creating projects much easier. One of our students said, "I love that we get to do so much art!" Another student said "We get to use ALL of this stuff?" They are so thrilled to be able to use the "good" stuff to create freely!

We look forward to many more projects and using all of the craft supplies in a meaningful way!”

  • Safety First in First Grade!

    Funded Jul 21, 2020

The materials supplied to the classroom have kept the students at a safe distance during the school year. The tape is easily changed and the bright colors help to create an inviting atmosphere. The footprints allow for direction and space in an exciting way. We use the clipboards and circle sit spots during group time. The pencil cases Alsace helped tremendously with not sharing classroom supplies. We appreciate your generosity during this unique time in education. It has made our transition back into school a more positive experience.”

  • "Starbooks" Cafe for Our School!

    Funded Dec 4, 2019

The students have been so excited to get into our new Starbooks cafe. We went down to write book reviews. We used our new chairs, cozied up on the carpets and we all got to read new books and write about them. We enjoyed the new space for learning. We even have chosen this as our next class reward, they would like to spend the entire day in Starbooks. Good thing we have lots of new projects for the kids to work on. We really appreciate your donations towards our new learning space and look forward to continually using this space and sharing it with the rest of our school!”

  • Engineering in Education

    Funded Jul 24, 2019

We have had the opportunity to use our science bins with two different classes! The students synergize with their peers while at each bin and make a plan by talking with their team. I am amazed by the science vocabulary and innovation from our first graders. The hands on learning opportunities for force and motion with an engineering twist has made this unit fun again! I look forward to introducing the kits to 7 other first grade classes this year. This was all made possible because of you! Thank you for contributing to Engineering in Education!”

  • Writing Our Way Into the Future

    Funded Jul 9, 2019

It is amazing to see all of my young writers engaged in the writing process. They have really enjoyed using the markers, colored pencils and different writing tools. The writing folders are a great way to introduce the writing process. Their first stories have been scanned into their digital portfolio as well. Our writing center is full of wonderful resources and it is fully accessible by our students. Not all of our resources have been used yet, but as we move into different genres the students will be even more excited with the additional tools promote writing! We really appreciate your generosity.”

Last year, I filled our library with amazing mentor texts to motivate our writers. This year, I think they may need a little more boost on the creative side. Oftentimes, students are reluctant to write. Included in this project are different ways to entice writers to get working! Who wouldn't want to use a writing center containing colored gel pens for editing, erasable pens for writing in pen (how exciting!), a variety of markers and colored pencils to accompany their everyday crayons, retractable erasers because it's okay to make mistakes, an automatic stapler to create their own books, and, most importantly, the document scanner so students can create an electronic portfolio of their writing to view throughout the school year to see their progress and share with their parents at student led conferences?!
