The materials that I am requesting will be used to participate in the Classroom Book A Day project. I am requesting picture books that will be used to read aloud to my two third grade classes every day this school year. The books that I have chosen focus on acceptance and inclusion, building community, compassion and empathy, bravery, and the concept of self. Research shows that reading aloud to students, no matter what their reading level is, helps build community and develop empathy. Reading picture books also gives students exposure to diverse stories as well as an appreciation for the beautiful art that they contain.
