A good science class does more than teach concepts. Students need the opportunity to investigate for themselves. Without basic lab supplies, many fun and exciting investigations are simply not possible. Mass and weight are important concepts for students to understand, and important building blocks for larger and broader topics. These scales will allow us the option of doing a large number of investigations that we would be unable to do without them. My group of students do not come from homes with a great deal of advantages. It is important to give them the greatest number of opportunities to explore, spark their interest, and keep them engaged.
