Let Me Make Learning Fun!
Funded Sep 8, 2018This project has had an enormous impact on my student's study habits. They have not only been able to build proficiency but mastery in their content areas. My students use this resource as study sets for vocabulary and critical concepts. They have used it on a limited basis before, but that they could have full access they were even more excited! As a matter of fact, we took a pre-test on our current unit, then we started using our new resource and taking notes as well. As we worked through our unit of study, anyone who finished early then worked on their study sets. By the time the end of the unit came around and we took our post-test, the class's scores had gone up dramatically.
Once again we thank you so much for such a generous gift providing the opportunity to improve achieve mastery in our skills sets.”

The Search for Belle Prater.
Funded Oct 31, 2018Many of my students have very few if any books of their own at home. We started reading Belle Prater's Boy every year with a new class. The students really get into the story even if it is not a story they may read on their own.
In this particular story there are a lot of the same issues my students deal with. Some of these are personal demons, a feeling of belonging, and a coming of age. The story has become so popular they have asked to read the sequel and a subsequent book by the same author!
In reading this story, many of my students get to see that there are other kids just like them with the same issues and problems. This is really great for them as many of my students have never been out of their neighborhood.”
With gratitude,
Mr. Costello
