Throughout the school day, students will be given the opportunity to choose where they learn best. Rather than confining all learners to a plastic chair and desk, my students will be encouraged to try new things. For example, a student can choose to work on the floor with a lap desk or at a table while sitting on a stool. Every student that walks into my classroom is unique, thus each student has a unique learning style. Some students feel more successful when they are given the opportunity to stand while they work, some prefer a standard desk and chair, while others would rather sit on the floor with a wobble cushion and a low table. With this project students will be provided with a variety of flexible seating items including wobble stability stools, floor lap desks, a tall cafe table, wobble cushions, and stability yoga balls. Personalizing the classroom to meet each student's needs will create an authentic learning environment. Flexible seating will also teach students to be respectful of the their peers. Teaching students to recognize how their peers learn helps them to explore not only their own learning strengths, but teaches respect for different learning styles present in the classroom.
