Change Your Life Today! Help Motivate a Student to Succeed!

Funded Aug 14, 2018

I am so grateful for your incredible kindness and compassion for the students at PS/IS 384. Your donations to support the students receiving counseling have enabled them to engage with the numerous materials. For example, I counsel a first grader who is a selective mute and practicing ways to reduce anxiety and with the use of the magnets have encouraged him to talk about his creations. Another student who is in the 8th grade is currently struggling with career choices and questioning what he can do while he works with his learning disability he was able to review the career books you made happen.

Many of your donations such as the stress balls and bean bags have helped students in the third and fourth grader cope with their anxiety. In one of the photos, the interns work with a group of students who deal with symptoms due to trauma, autism and ADHD/Add. The students engage in play by tossing the bean bag to one another to assist in reducing fear and allowing for a conversation to develop. My second grader who thankfully is in remission struggles with her self-esteem because she had lost her hair while in treatment. She takes time to admire herself in the mirror you provided and see how her hair has grown and how healthy she has become.

My personal favorite is a book titled "Believe in Yourself" which a fifth grader has chosen to read one page whenever she arrives for counseling. This student has lost her hearing and receives self-esteem building. Her favorite page encourages her never to shy away from moving forward. "One of my rules is never try to do anything. Just do it." ~Ani Difranco. This quote fits quite perfectly because you as a donor followed that very thing. You just did it!

Thank you for your generosity and loving heart.”

With gratitude,

Ms. Nieves
