This project will play a vital role in offering the right tools for my 1st grade math students to become flexible and fluent with the numbers from 1 to 20. In 1st grade, students learn to count on, count back, skip count, find number pairs to 10, add and subtract. They are given multiple strategies to help them find answers to addition and subtraction math problems, which get progressively harder throughout the year. These math tools will give my students the extra support they need to be hands-on with objects so they may gain a stronger understanding of numbers. Some of the items that I chose for this project are dice, dominoes, number spinners, flash cards, dry erase 120 charts, and magnetic ten-frames to help students during independent work stay engaged and feel like they're "playing games" when really, they're growing their minds! I also requested 20 fidget bands, which are like large rubber bands that wrap around the bottom of their chairs so they can keep their feet busy while I'm giving instruction or teaching a lesson. These will help my students who have ADHD and will relieve stress and anxiety. The tools will be used during whole group, while they learn new strategies, for visual representations, and hands-on activities, as well as in centers, where they are able to "show what they know" independently.
