Up and Coming Future Surgeons!
Funded Feb 18, 2019Thank you so much for you donations and giving my students a learning experience they will never forget! The new resources were used to transform the classroom into an operating room. There were blue table cloths hanging to section off six operating rooms (OR). Each OR had a table with an IV bag hanging from the ceiling just waiting on the patient. Students dressed in isolation gowns, head gear, gloves, and masks before entering the OR.
My class was so excited and mesmerized when they walked into the classroom! I couldn't even get them calmed to explain everything! Ha! Students made comments like "This is the best science ever!", "I really look like a doctor!", "This is a cool way to learn the body", and "I can't wait to operate on someone." At the end of the project, one student said, "I will always remember where the organs are and what they do because of this experience."
Prior to operating day, the students cut out an outline of their own body, cut out all organs, and wrote on the cut out organ about what that organ does for the body. On operating day, they had to work as a "team of doctors" and place the organs on their body, as well as discuss the functions of the organs.
Because of your generous donations for materials, my students will forever remember this hands-on learning experience about the body systems.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Thompson
