  • Books Belong in the Math Classroom

    Funded Nov 18, 2024

I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude for the wonderful books that have found their way into our math classroom. These resources have not only enriched our lessons but have also sparked curiosity and deeper understanding among my students. Seeing their excitement as they explore new concepts and strategies through engaging texts has been truly rewarding.

The impact of these books goes beyond just solving equations—they help build critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and confidence in mathematics. Whether through story-based math explorations or practical applications, these materials have made abstract ideas more accessible and relatable. The difference they have made in creating a more dynamic and engaging learning environment is immeasurable.

Thank you for your generosity and commitment to education. Your contribution has inspired both me and my students, making our classroom a space where learning flourishes. I truly appreciate your support in helping shape young minds and fostering a love for mathematics.

    Sincerely,

    Ms. Wilson”

  • Equitable Apple Resources

    Funded Aug 27, 2024

Students love new technology. Especially, when they are allowed creative control. Students are able to check out the apple laptop and use it creatively in class. Students are also building upon their STEM capabilities by bringing math alive in the digital format.

Technology is transforming education by creating more engaging, personalized, and accessible learning experiences for students. Here's how our Macbook has transformed our learning space:

Personalized Learning: Technology allows students to learn at their own pace through adaptive programs. Tools like online learning platforms and apps cater to individual skill levels, ensuring no one is left behind or held back.

Technology provides students with access to a wealth of online resources, including eBooks, virtual field trips, and expert lectures, expanding their learning beyond the traditional classroom. Through technology, students develop critical digital literacy skills. They learn how to research effectively, evaluate online information, and use various tools they'll encounter in higher education and the workforce.”

  • Building Thinking Classrooms

    Funded Feb 15, 2024

Middle school students benefit significantly from using chart paper and engaging in collaborative learning. Here are several ways these tools and methods enhance their educational experience:

    ### Benefits of Using Chart Paper

    1. **Visual Learning**: Chart paper is an excellent medium for visual learners. It allows students to see information presented in a clear, organized manner. Diagrams, charts, and mind maps can be created on chart paper, helping students grasp complex concepts more easily.

    2. **Interactive Learning**: Using chart paper in the classroom encourages active participation. Students can physically interact with the material by writing, drawing, and organizing information themselves. This hands-on approach enhances memory retention and understanding.

    3. **Group Work Facilitation**: Chart paper is ideal for group activities. It provides a large, shared space where students can collectively brainstorm, jot down ideas, and work through problems. This fosters teamwork and ensures everyone's input is visible and valued.

    4. **Presentation Skills**: When students create posters or charts and present them to the class, they develop essential communication and presentation skills. Explaining their work to peers boosts their confidence and reinforces their understanding of the subject matter.

    5. **Flexibility and Portability**: Chart paper is easy to use and move around the classroom. It can be displayed on walls, making it a constant visual reminder of the lesson and facilitating ongoing learning and reference.

    ### Benefits of Collaborative Learning

    1. **Enhanced Understanding**: Collaborative learning allows students to learn from each other. When students explain concepts to their peers or work through problems together, they reinforce their own understanding and gain new perspectives.

    2. **Development of Social Skills**: Working in groups helps middle school students develop critical social skills, such as communication, cooperation, and conflict resolution. These skills are essential for their overall personal development and future teamwork scenarios.

    3. **Increased Engagement and Motivation**: Collaborative learning can make lessons more engaging. Students are often more motivated and enthusiastic when they work together, as the social aspect makes learning more enjoyable.

    4. **Peer Support**: In a collaborative setting, students can support each other. They can share knowledge, clarify doubts, and provide encouragement, which is particularly beneficial for students who might be struggling with certain topics.

    5. **Critical Thinking and Problem Solving**: Group work encourages students to think critically and solve problems collectively. They learn to approach challenges from different angles, discuss potential solutions, and arrive at a consensus.

    6. **Accountability and Responsibility**: When students work in groups, they learn to take responsibility for their part of the work. This fosters a sense of accountability and helps them understand the importance of contributing to a team effort.

By combining the use of chart paper with collaborative learning, middle school students can enjoy a richer, more interactive educational experience. These methods not only enhance their academic skills but also contribute to their social and personal growth.”

  • In Class Copies

    Funded May 8, 2024

Technology plays a crucial role in enhancing the learning experience for students in Chicago Public Schools (CPS) in several ways:

    1. **Access to Educational Resources**: Technology provides CPS students with access to a wealth of educational resources and materials that would otherwise be unavailable. Online textbooks, educational websites, and digital libraries allow students to explore subjects in depth and at their own pace. This access is particularly beneficial for research projects, homework assignments, and self-directed learning.

    2. **Personalized Learning**: Through technology, teachers can offer personalized learning experiences tailored to individual students' needs. Educational software and learning management systems can track student progress, identify areas where they may be struggling, and provide targeted exercises to help them improve. This personalized approach helps ensure that all students, regardless of their learning styles or abilities, receive the support they need to succeed.

    3. **Enhanced Engagement and Collaboration**: Technology in the classroom, such as interactive whiteboards, tablets, and educational apps, makes learning more interactive and engaging. Students can participate in virtual labs, simulations, and other hands-on activities that make learning more dynamic and enjoyable. Additionally, technology fosters collaboration among students through tools like shared documents, discussion boards, and virtual group projects, which help develop their teamwork and communication skills.

    4. **Preparation for the Future**: Proficiency in technology is essential for success in the modern workforce. By integrating technology into the curriculum, CPS helps students develop critical digital literacy skills. This includes everything from basic computer skills to coding and digital content creation. These skills are not only crucial for many careers but also for navigating the increasingly digital world.

    5. **Remote and Hybrid Learning**: The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the importance of technology in ensuring continuity of education. CPS leveraged technology to implement remote and hybrid learning models, enabling students to continue their education despite school closures. Platforms like video conferencing tools and online classrooms became vital for delivering instruction and maintaining student-teacher interaction.

    6. **Access to Special Programs and Opportunities**: Technology enables CPS students to participate in special programs and opportunities that may not be available locally. For instance, students can take online courses in specialized subjects, join virtual field trips, and participate in global learning communities. This broadens their educational horizons and provides experiences that enrich their academic journey.

Overall, technology is an indispensable tool that helps Chicago Public Schools students learn more effectively, stay engaged, and prepare for future challenges and opportunities.”

  • Ideas in Print!

    Funded Dec 10, 2022

Thank you for your generous contribution. The scholars really appreciate the material and had a great time learning and knowing that they could really be great at math through personalized support and immediate access to materials. The most exciting part was allowing students to use the printer and print from their own devices. The middle school learners really thought that they control over their learning. This experience boosted their intrinsic motivation and look forward to more learning each day. I also included choice in their daily work and it also reduced wasted paper because they were able to print the assignment they chose.”

  • Personalized Learning Stations

    Funded Feb 8, 2023

My scholars loved that they could have authentic choice in the classroom and find resources that we could immediately use in our classroom. The personalized learning stations cut down on wasted paper and truly allowed their learning to be tailored in real time. This donation truly keeps on giving to any scholar, any day for any reason. I was able to help other stakeholders as well when the main printer was down or needed to adjust their assignments mid-day. Although we are a STEM school, technology is a huge part of everyday learning, however there are times where it can be overwhelming and diverse learners benefit from hands on activities. Because of you they had an amazing school year.”
