  • Enriching Sand and STEM Station Options

    Funded Dec 18, 2024

The students love using the materials. The kinetic sand reinforces quantity and size. It also helps with math vocabulary like heavy, light etc. It is great to see them learning in such a fun way. Right now they are working on making and describing various shapes and they use stencils in the sand to do so.

The pattern blocks also reinforce shapes as they work to make the completed picture. These are easier to use because they are using hand eye coordination to place the shapes on top of the pictures. This was hard for them to do before because the pictures were not there as a guide so it is more satisfying to them to do and they feel a sense of accomplishment as a result. We are grateful that your donation has helped us to feel accomplished. Thank you so much for thinking of us.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. McLaurin

  • Prekindergarten Students Learn to Be Critical Thinkers Through STEM!

    Funded Dec 3, 2024

The students thoroughly enjoy using the STEM toys to build and create. Afterward, they draw pictures and write about what they have built. The children love to show off what they have made and are beginning to use more sophisticated language to describe them.

I am seeing students who are proud of their work and are planning what they would like to create for the next time they use the items. They are progressing as they learn and create and I am noticing that they are using more detail with what they make which is refreshing to see.”

  • Prekindergarten Scholars Learn To Measure Quantities

    Funded Oct 23, 2024

The students love to use the new resources to learn. They specifically request to use the dry erase boards for writing practice and puzzles at Choice Time. I think this has helped them to think outside the box. They were so excited when they saw the puzzles and they sometimes argue about who will use them.

The math games are perfect for one-to-one correspondence and number recognition and the children love to manipulate the pieces during math small groups. It can be a challenge for them to get the pegs in the small holes but they persevere. They love to use all of the items and it has greatly benefited their learning.”

  • Help Emerging Readers Writers, and Math Learners Perfect Their Skills

    Funded Aug 15, 2024

My prekindergarten students love to use the dry erase boards to practice writing lines and circles. They are beginning to make letters to write their names. The dry erase boards are the perfect size for these tasks. They are so proud of themselves when they can do these things.

We received a new sand table and the sensory bin materials help them to be able to learn about quantity and counting. They love to explore this area of the classroom.

In the math center of the classroom they use the counting pegs and nesting boxes and it is hard to get them to clean up because they do not want to leave this area because it is so much fun for them. Thank you for your donations and for helping us to learn with the materials you donated.”

  • Prekindergarten Students Learn about Light and Color

    Funded Dec 14, 2023

Your generous donation allowed McLaurin's Best to more deeply understand the relationship between light and color. The materials are so much more organized because of the tray you donated. Thank you so much.

My scholars thoroughly enjoy using the materials on the light table and are learning more enriched vocabulary when using the neon watercolors on the light table. Scholars are mixing colors in the tray which helps them learn about secondary colors. They have learned to select only the colored stones needed to construct animals, scenes etc. included in the set.

Next we will try an art project writing letters and words on tracing paper and highlighting them with neon colors.”

  • Help Build Literacy and STEM Learning

    Funded Nov 28, 2023

The children love to use the materials purchased. They become so engaged when manipulating the kinetic sand. You should hear the vocabulary we are learning when we do so. The sand lends itself to this.

The students love to use the magnetic design center. They make houses and talk about the shapes they make. This is a great follow up on the shapes unit we just finished.

It is an area of our classroom that the children love to visit.

The red timer is used as part of Social Emotional regulation. We take deep breaths every 20 minutes as a coping skill and it is the Legend of the Day's job to reset the timer so it lends to classroom jobs.

Who doesn't love Play-Doh? We use it in all subjects and just about all centers of the classroom everyday. It is great for strengthening pincer muscles of little hands. The students make letters and animals with the dough and count out a targeted amount using one-to-one correspondence. We are always running out of it but are well stocked now. Thank you so much for supporting our classroom.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. McLaurin
