AP Chemistry Needs Study Books
Funded Nov 19, 2010The students in my AP (advanced placement) chemistry class have greatly benefited from the review books that were bought with your generous donations. They used them in class, at home and at our study sessions to review material, take quizzes and take practice tests to evaluate their skill levels.
The students took their tests in May and it was definitely a challenge as expected. The class covers the first two chemistry classes that are taken by chemistry majors in college and the test is essentially the final from both classes put into one test. They worked hard to gain the knowledge and skills that would prepare them for the test. With the review books it made studying more organized and easier for them to see what they knew and what they needed to study more. One student said "the study book helped a lot. There were things that I wouldn't have reviewed without it, but remembered on the test because I had studied." As a teacher it makes me happy knowing that it was the right resource for my students to use.
We will not get the results back until mid summer but I am sure that the pass rate will have gone up. The students who passed may receive college credit for the course depending on their chosen school. And for the others, it will make taking the class in college much easier since they have a solid foundation in the material.
A big thank you to all of you who donated. The student appreciate it and have valued the books all year. Keep up donating!!!”

Exciting Science
Funded Nov 6, 2010Due to the generous donations made by everyone who participated I have been able to plan and execute better labs for my students. The storage bottles allow me to prepare and safely store chemicals vital to the labs that we do. The 'Demo A Day' book has given me a multitude of ideas to demonstrate the material to students and get their attention and get them excited about the content they are learning. The other material will give us more flexibility in the labs that we can perform now that we have necessary equipment.
I hope that all of you will continue to help teachers through this website. It is a wonderful way to keep our schools functioning at their best during these difficult budget battles we are all going through. You are truly helping all our futures by helping these kids and the appreciate it greatly.
