This year I have started using a new reading management system with my students. We are implementing a system called "The Daily Five," where students spend time each day engaged in meaningful activities to improve as readers, instead of spending a lot of time reading and completing worksheets to check for understanding. The students have a choice each day to "Read to Self," "Read to Someone," "Work on Writing," "Work with Words" or to "Listen to Reading." Not all students are good at reading aloud. One way to improve this skill is to listen to good readers read. We currently don't have any resources that would allow individual students to choose a book and listen to it being read aloud to them. We cannot implement this part of our program without some personal CD players to use in the classroom.
