Enhancing Classroom Environment
Funded Nov 30, 2021My students and I am extremely grateful for your generous donations. From the moment they saw the new seating options and recess materials, smiles lit up on their face and they couldn't wait to use them.
The students use the wobble stools at their desks to help them focus and move their bodies during independent work. Before receiving the stools from your donations, the the students would ask me nonstop if they could sit on one at their seat but now we have more seating options and it helps more students get an opportunity and less students asking. That being said, you have no idea how much this positively impacts the environment in our room.
In addition, the magnetic tiles have been such a great tool for students to use during indoor recess. They get to socialize with others as they are building and get to use their imagination, as well. I love getting to see them collaborate on their own and be able to use their free play time to benefit their social development. This is extremely important as it will help them as they become older and interact with others.
All in all, I truly could not do this job without your kindness and support. These students deserve the world and whatever I can do to help them get just that, I will work to do.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Lister
This classroom project was brought to life by The DonorsChoose Community and 5 other donors. The Building "Books" of Reading Comprehension
Funded Jul 8, 2018All my students have loved the materials donated to our room. When I tell them that people have donated to our room because they care about their learning, their faces light up; they feel that they are important. The first item I introduced and used was the clip boards. The students absolutely love being able to get out of their seats and work around the room. If they can't see the board clearly, they simply grab a clip board and move to the carpet. The colors appeal to them too, as they are excited when I suggest using them. It allows for flexibility which is an important aspect of a classroom because the students can choose what seating arrangement may best suit them when completing independent work for reading. We all know that when someone is comfortable, learning is easier.
Another item that is essential to our classroom is the leveled library. Students read at different levels, which means that they need books that they can read on their own. Having these in the room allows the students to go to the bookshelf and choose a book in that letter section to read. They have loved the books and after learning some facts from the nonfiction books, students will come up to me and share. For example, "Ms. Slowinski, did you know that wolves can eat 20 pounds of meat in one meal"? This expresses the significance of this donation because the students are reacting to the text they are reading which creates good readers.
One item that the students could not live without are the privacy folders. The students absolutely love them and use them just about every day. I will pass out independent work and within moments I will have a student ask, "Ms. Slowinski can I get a privacy folder"? Not only does this help eliminate distractions, but it also can help a student dig deeper into their work or reading. In addition, if a student is having a tough time, it allows them to block off others and complete the task at hand.
All these items, even the ones I did not mention, have made such an impact to our learning with reading. I am extremely grateful, and the students are as well. I love the way their reading has already improved this year due to the resources we now have. I have no doubt, that an increase in success will occur and I look forward to continuing our use of these items! I cannot thank my donors enough, you are all truly appreciated not only by my school and myself, but by the community.”
