I believe a classroom with a rich environment is the key to success. As a second grade teacher, I want to provide my students with a student-centered environment. To do so, I've decided to take Flexible Seating to a new level in my classroom.
Flexible Seating gives students control of their environment, comfort in class, builds community and collaboration, and helps improve their physical health. Students will have control of their environment by choosing where they want to work and with whom. Students are learning to be responsible for their learning, solve problems, and make choices. Flexible seating encourages students to share and take turns. It creates a classroom from a child's point of view. Students also become more engaged and focused. Most importantly it gives students an opportunity to move, wobble, rock, bounce, lean, or stand. This increases oxygen to the brain, blood flow, and core strength. This is a very important part of the student-centered classroom I want for my classroom.
