  • Cozy Carpet!

    Funded Jul 5, 2022

Thank you so much for funding my project. I know my future second graders next year will really appreciate a comfortable place to sit, spread out, and enjoy their classroom without the restrictions we experienced this school year. This rug will be something my students use all day, every day! We truly appreciate your kindness and generosity. I can’t wait for the kids to see it this September.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Rawlings

  • Magnetic Madness!

    Funded Jul 25, 2018

Thank you so much for all of the reading materials you contributed to our classroom. I had the opportunity to use these materials throughout summer school and with my current second graders. When the students first saw the materials, they were excited to get started.

The magnetic letters have been a fun way for my students to practice building and spelling sight words as well as practicing various phonic skills. The dry erase sleeves added some color to our classroom on my "Wow Work" wall. Student work is displayed there when they have given best effort. The magnetic whiteboards have also been a huge hit. Students quiz each other on their spelling words and they are also able to use these in conjunction with our magnetic letters. The fluency sand timers have been an amazing tool for students to practice their reading speed independently.

The impact has been greater than I can explain. With many of my students being English language learners, having materials such as these provide an engaging way for students to improve their reading skills. The materials have allowed me to create various independent stations for my students to practice phonics, fluency, sight words, and so much more. I have already seen growth in their reading.

Since our reading is well underway, our project will likely involve math related materials or a class set of headphones for out 1-1 computers.

    Thank you, again.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Rawlings

Teaching is the only profession that can be both the most rewarding and the most difficult at the same time. We take on students each year, love them like our own, and do our best to foster their learning and development. Given our devotion to our kids, teachers often spend hundreds of dollars per year in order to ensure they're supported. As I embark on my second year of teaching, I can say that I've already joined that list of educators. I teach in a school where more than 70% of students qualify for free and reduced lunch. Often times, their basic needs are not being met. They come to my classroom craving support, consistency, love, and an opportunity to learn and thrive. Unfortunately, before they even walk into my door, they're at a disadvantage. I've joined Donor's Choose in an attempt to lessen that disadvantage and provide them all with an equal learning opportunity.
