  • Lice Free!

    Funded Mar 21, 2020

"Ms. Tatarka, can you spray my hair"? This is what students happily ask me all time. They are so happy to have preventive sprays for their hair and belongings. They also smells great and it helps them not to fell embarrassed. It's like perfume; a special spa treatment right at school!

Students in my class have missed many school days because of lice. They also have delays in coming back to school because the treatment is an extra expense for families and often times can't be purchased. Being able to give treatment kits to families has helped so much. This project also supplied hair shampoo as well as clothing and furniture spray. These are expensive items but necessary. So often students will have lice multiple times a year. The treatments as well as preventive supplies help students come to school everyday.

    Thank you again.”

  • A Cozy Reading Nook

    Funded Mar 20, 2020

Thank you so much! It is amazing to see my students relaxing and working. This project has helped me to create an environment with reduced stress. The space made for my students is welcoming and enjoyable. They take pride in the special setup of their classroom and this shows in their work.

Another way this project helps is by keeping the room organized. Anyone who has ever tried to work in an unorganized workspace can appreciate how this helps. When students and adults are organized and comfortable everyone benefits.

    Your generosity is appreciated.”

  • Chromebook Class

    Funded May 4, 2021

    This is amazing thank you!!!

I desperately need technology in my class. During this pandemic my students have gained so many different skills using the computer. I need to ensure my future students become just as technology savvy. Having chrome books will allow my students to use technology throughout the day in all subjects, which is so important in this technology driven world we live in.”

  • Snack Time!

    Funded May 4, 2021

I can’t wait to see the look on my students faces when they see the snacks and care packages that are waiting for them.

They will have snacks to take home and to eat in class when needed. My students enjoy nothing more than a warm cup of oatmeal while they’re doing their morning reading in class.”

  • Quarantine Fun

    Funded Apr 17, 2020

Well it was the end of the 2019-2020 school year. My students already spent months in quarantine and the summer was unknown.

Your generous donations allowed me to create care packs for the students to use at the end of the school year and summer. The package included fun and learning activities to keep their minds and hands active. I included things I knew they would love such as play dough, cookie cutters, stickers, markers, paint and paper.

The day we meet up was very emotional and special. It was the first time we were able to see each other since the pandemic started. Even though we social distanced, we still felt close. I brought sidewalk chalk and bubbles and the kids had a chance to PLAY. It was amazing and appreciated. Thank you again.”

  • Let's Keep Learning!

    Funded May 15, 2020

Well you did it again!!! My students were overwhelmed and so was I. I invited my students to a 'Meet & Greet'.

I am teaching a 4th/ 5th grade class that is full remote. This would be our first and possibly only chance to see each other face to face.

It was wonderful being able to stuff book bags and give them out. All the essentials and a few goodies were inside.

The way we use the materials is like a traveling desk. The students works come to 'class' with their bags. Depending on the less we were doing the students take out the needed materials. When school is over for the day they pack up until tomorrow. Some of their favorite items are the dry erase boards, markers and pen it cases.

    Thank you again!”

  • Courageous Conversations- Teacher Book Club Part 2

    Funded Jun 25, 2020

Thank you so much for this opportunity to have deep and meaningful conversations with my colleagues. We were able to come together, virtually, and have a weekly book club.

It created a safe and comfortable place to have the uncomfortable and emotional conversations. Each we we pre read a chapter and came ready to share what resonated with us, what touched us or what we were unaware of.

We discussed shifts in our teaching practices and book selection. We all decided to be mindful of what material we selected and how we presented it.

I feel that I personally learned a lot and grew as a person and educator.”

  • Back 2 Basics

    Funded Dec 31, 2019

What a great way to start the New Year!

I can’t wait to get back to school and set up our new reading center. It has be so wonderful to watch my students become readers this year. It has been a long hard struggle for many, but they don’t let their disabilities hold them back.

I can not describe how proud I am of them when they finally find the courage to raise their hand to read aloud.

Thank you so much for believing in our students.”

  • Snack Time!

    Funded Dec 3, 2019

It means the world to me when I can tell my students "YES!"

When a students comes to me and says my stomach hurts, do you have anything to eat? My answer is yes. I can see the difference in a child who has food security in the class. They know whenever they are hungry they can come to be and get something to eat.

We expect so much from children during the academic day. High demands are put on them to produce work. They need to be able to fully concentrate. If they are distracted by hunger pains it takes ways from their learning.

Thank you for investing in education and children. It means so much.”

  • Special Supplies for Special Kids!

    Funded Oct 13, 2019

The students in my class love using the supplies to learn. It is so much easier to teach with the best supplies.

I can now teach my students to annotate the text when reading. Each student has a pack of post-its and different colored pencils. When reading they can mark up the text and jot notes to keep track of their thinking.

They feel like little college students when they come to the meeting area with their pencil case of supplies. When we break up into groups they love the table top easels. They can work on their assignments with a dry erase marker and they love to tape their work on it too.

    Thank you again for generosity!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Tatarka

ChairMates will be used to teach my students how to become organized and stay organized. Students will keep dry erase markers, whiteboards, and any manipulatives they may need to complete a task. I’m also requesting classroom supplies and organizational materials such as pocket charts, dry erase markers and adhesive dry erase laminate. I want to give my students every advantage to be successful! Students are constantly moving from group to group and to different centers. They often misplace materials. They will now be able to move their own chair from group to group and have their materials with them at all times. No more getting to reading center with out a pencil or folder. No more math group without counters or base 10 blocks.
