Having access to technology is essential for my students, who live in the forgotten backyard of the tech industry. While many students have access to cell phones, they still struggle to learn basic computer skills. Many students, because they lack access to computers, attempt to write their essays on their cell phones. Imagine using "Notes" to write and properly format a five page essay! Learning skills in word processing, research, and computer literacy are integral to their future success. Students will use these laptops for essay writing, research, and 21st century skills, such as creating web content and basic programming. In-class access to computers also means we will have information at our fingertips during classroom activities, and students will be able to critically engage with the digital world that surrounds them.
