Students need time for movement throughout the school day. In my classroom, the setup has 4 centers and 1 teacher center for both ELA and Math. Students transition from center to center for different tasks for both ELA and Math. These stools will provide a break for students from sitting in the traditional hard,stable classroom chairs. Students can move around, relax their back, and refocus on their learning. Once students reach the teacher group center, they will get an opportunity to sit on these wobble stools for a break. These stools will provide an opportunity for students to sit on the stools and move around, while still getting the "meat" of the lesson for the day. The idea of these stools came after having hard stools for my teacher group this past year. After 2 months, many of the stools had bent legs due to students moving around, and after 5 months, many of the stools were completely broken. I did not want to discourage the movement, as my students were focused and reaching their highest potential. These stools will help my students safely get out the "wiggles" for optimal learning potential.
