  • BrainPOP Jr. to the Rescue!

    Funded Oct 23, 2024

Thank you all for donating to our project!

My students are looking forward to using BrainPOP Jr. to build their background knowledge. Over the next few weeks we will view the following videos to enhance our understanding of social studies content: Continents and Oceans, Landforms, and Ancient China. In math, we will use the Place Value video to enrich our understanding of numbers.

We will continue to use the app throughout the year to enhance our learning in multiple content areas

Again, thank you for helping fund our project!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Alvarez

  • Tools for Success IV

    Funded Sep 21, 2023

My students and I were excited to learn that our project has been funded! My students are looking forward to using all the materials you have generously donated. They are especially interested in using the stopwatch to record their times when they run a quarter miles in a few weeks.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Alvarez

  • School Supplies for Distance Learning Success

    Funded Sep 7, 2020

Thank you for helping fund these valuable resources. My students use them on an almost daily basis. They use the composition notebooks to take notes during reading workshop and to solve math word problems. They use the dry erase markers to practice addition and subtraction strategies. The scissors and glue allow them to create art projects, such as the one in the photo. This project was part of a unit in which students had to engineer a disguise for a turkey using whatever items were available to them. The materials you helped fund have enhanced learning opportunities for my students during this difficult time. Thank you!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Alvarez

  • Chromebooks for Cubs

    Funded Oct 25, 2019

Thank you so much for funding two Samsung Chromebooks for my classroom. It took a while to get them set up, but once they were ready, my students were able to use them several times a week. They used the Chromebooks to review math skills using two programs, DreamBox and Zearn.org. They also used the Chromebooks to do research for two project-based learning projects. One project focused on animal adaptations. The other project centered around weather and climate. Having the Chromebooks also allowed my students to begin to experience collaborative writing using Google Docs and Google Classroom. I have included photos of the writing my students did using what they learned through internet research. The sixth photo shows writing that they created collaboratively using Google Docs.”

    Mr. Alvarez

  • Spark a Light for Learning

    Funded Oct 4, 2019

Thank you for helping us fund this project! I installed the projector bulb the day it arrived and we have been able to continue to use the projector on a daily basis. We use it primarily to share student work and model learning strategies.

The adapter cables have allowed us to charge the five iPads we have in our classroom. My students have been using the iPads to do research on animal adaptations. The UE Boom speaker has allowed us to hear educational videos, such as the ones on the BrainPOP and BrainPOP Jr. apps.”

    Mr. Alvarez

  • Clorox Clean Our Classroom

    Funded Sep 7, 2019
This classroom project was brought to life by The Clorox Company and 8 other donors.
  • You Want Us to Listen, We Need Headphones

    Funded Nov 27, 2017

Thank you so much for helping fund headphones and headphone splitters for my classroom. My students used these tools on numerous occasions last year. The headphones allowed my students to work on computer programs, such as DreamBox and Zearn, without increasing the noise level in the classroom. This allowed other students to focus while working in a small group with me or completing paper and pencil work. The headphone splitters allowed my students to share devices and work collaboratively. For example, they were able to pair up and watch BrainPOP Jr. movies to review or learn about new topics.

Thank you so much for helping bring these great tools into our classroom!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Alvarez

  • With Coding We Will Think

    Funded Dec 3, 2015

Thank you all for helping fund an iPad Air 2 for our classroom. This iPad helped my students learn the basics of computer programming. They used it to access code.org and complete many of the lessons that are part of the site's 20 hours of coding.

We used this powerful tool to enhance learning in our classroom in several other ways. First, it allowed my students to watch educational videos using BrainPOP, BrainPOP Jr., and Khan Academy. Second, it allowed them to create Keynote presentations of surveys they took while studying math data analysis. Last, they used it to practice math skills with an app called Dreambox. This iPad has been a great addition to our classroom!”

  • We Are Artists, We Need Tools

    Funded Oct 28, 2015

Thank you all for helping fund these great art tools!

I have posted photos of two of the art projects we have created with them. The first four photos are of the cityscape lesson we did. My students used various strategies, like using different shape sizes and locations, to create city skylines that show the illusion of space. They then used the watercolor paint and brushes you funded to place a watercolor wash over their cityscapes. The last two photos are of a single piece that students created together. It features a flower pot and flowers that students created using pieces of water bottles, acrylic paint, and the paint brushes which all of you helped fund.

My students really enjoyed creating these pieces of art and they are excited to create more. Thank you all for your contributions!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Alvarez

  • We Will Wiggle While We Learn

    Funded Dec 4, 2014

Thank you all for supporting our classroom's project!

My students loved the two Hokki stools you funded! They found them very comfortable and liked that they could wiggle and move while sitting on them. When given a choice, they preferred to sit on the Hokki stools instead of their chairs.

We rotated the Hokki stools daily, so that everyone got to sit on them during the week. I observed that while sitting on the Hokki stools my students were able to focus better, be more quite, and work for longer periods of time.

Thank you for providing us with such amazing learning tools.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Alvarez

I teach a diverse group of students. Sixteen of my third graders are Latino, four are African American, and three are Asian/Pacific Islander. Six are English learners. All of my students receive free or reduced price lunches. They are a bright and eager group who thrive with the help of technology. Because many of them come from families who cannot afford to provide them with technology to enhance their learning at home, it is my goal to have such technology resources available for them while they are in my classroom.
