The journey of a thousand pages is a reading initiative to encourage students to read a variety of genres. Finding something interesting to read is no longer a task when students have a variety of stories, authors, and writing styles right at their fingertips. When teachers have classroom libraries, accessibility is no longer an issue! Students will have the freedom to choose a book that fits their reading level and interest. Since student interests are ever-changing, we must continue to add titles to our classroom library!
With these new books, students can pull from various genres of interest. All of these titles have been chosen with my students in mind. Since most of what I do is student-centered, it was their voices I needed to hear in order to seek out what they wanted to read from our classroom library. Students were given the opportunity to discuss what topics/themes they wanted to add to our classroom library. The list you see is the result of peer to peer and peer to teacher collaborative discussions. We care for our books by creating book covers to protect the integrity of the book covers. We want our classroom library to remain intact for years to come. By donating these titles to our project, we will continue to foster a community of readers while meeting the interests of the students. Students will continue to strengthen their independent reading skills while nurturing their reading interests.
