One Carpet, So Many Uses!

My students are loving the new carpet! When I rolled out the carpet for the first time, all of my students thought the carpet was the biggest, most beautiful carpet in the world! They were all so excited and so surprised that people they didn't even know would get them such a wonderful gift! They work hard each day to remind each other to take good care of it because it is a really special part of our room.

Everyday we use the carpet as our gathering space for our morning meeting, sharing stories, and whole group lessons. Each student has their own square and they can see right where their space ends and another's space begins. My students' favorite times on the carpet are when they can spread out and take up as much space as they want! During read-to-self time, they bring pillows or stuffed animals, along with their book boxes, and get cozy to read a book. Partners often choose the carpet as their work space when reading together or playing math games. The carpet is a super popular spot during free choice time when students build giant floor puzzles or work on building shapes and designs using tangrams.

I can't wait until next week to try my new idea for yet another carpet use, jumping and spelling- jumping on the carpet letters to spell sight words! Thank you so much for your generous donation.
