Support Mrs. Agiovlasitis' classroom with a gift that fosters learning.
As an educator, we are always told to differentiate our lessons based on INDIVIDUAL student need. Some students need a visual representation of an idea or concept, while others prefer to listen to the lesson independently through headphones. Others benefit from collaboration with peers to work through notes and gain a better understanding of the material. In my planning, one size does not fit all. The same is true when considering seating in my classroom. Currently, students work in a typical desk attached to a chair. My classroom lacks options for seating. My hope is to change that. When given the opportunity to choose which seating will help each student be more successful, he/she becomes a part of the learning process. The autonomy allows students to take control of their own success and make mindful decisions to facilitate creativity and productivity.
I do not have the furniture needed to give students the options they deserve. Some students fidget constantly, either tapping his/her foot or clicking a pen, having a specific need for movement while working. Wobble chairs provide the opportunity for these students to get what they need while avoiding the distraction to others working around them. Others prefer sitting on the floor. Whenever given the option, students will lay/sit on the floor and spread out their materials to a larger workspace. Currently, with limited desk options, students do not have this opportunity in my classroom. The different desks will allow for more collaboration and a more effective workspace for many. It is my goal to build a countertop against one of my walls and eventually purchase high stools. This countertop will also serve as standing desks, as many students ask to stand while working.
