I am a sixth-year teacher committed to providing my students with experiences that go beyond a traditional language arts education. Content material is woven into a year-long unit on prejudice and intolerance, and classroom routines and procedures are differentiated to provide students with work and experiences that ensure that each student is working at challenge level. Students participate in reading and writing workshops to give them not only choice but also real-world experience with literacy. Our focus is centered on skills - we are a process-driven classroom rather than product-driven. I love what I do, but it is definitely a challenging job! What makes that challenge even tougher is when the budget strings tighten and I find myself without the resources I need to do my job the way I know would be most effective and rewarding for my students. I purchase many things myself, but I need your help, too!
