  • Technology in the Spanish Classroom

    Funded Sep 11, 2018

Thank you for allowing our class to have these amazing resources. We use the technology to use apps that help expose the children to Spanish language development. Most kids do not have access to technology at home or they do not have any Spanish resources at home. Students are super excited about using the tablets and the headphones. We have implemented a new listening center where students are can listen to Spanish books and songs.

Learning a second language is difficult and we have very limited resources. This project has benefited my students in more ways than one. They love being able to sit anywhere in the classroom and participate in these new activities.

Particular students were a bit hesitant in the Spanish program and now they have really been engaged and are starting to really appreciate Spanish more.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Gonzalez

  • Spanish Books for First Graders

    Funded Aug 8, 2018

thank you so much for your amazing generosity. We are able to read multiple books in Spanish every day. Being able to develop a reader identity at a young age let's children read for joy and not because it's a standard.

We've been able to read books and tie them into various lessons like sequencing for example. Students are always engaged and ready to read when we pick a book from our new library.

I'm our classroom we have a designated "read to self, and read to someone" where we are able to pick books that we want to read individually and also with a partner.

My students absolutely love the books about animals and are super eager to learn through reading. We are so appreciative.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Gonzalez

I am a first year Spanish teacher and more than 1/3 of my students come from low income families. I need to begin building a classroom library and I’m starting from absolute zero. When we do readers workshop, it would be amazing if they had a variety of books to choose from. I want my students to not only learn how to read, but develop a “reader idenity.” This way they can develop interests in different genres at an early age by having a variety of books to choose from. I have 50 students in a dual language program and this would be the starting point for something beautiful!
